Welcome to Attacking Rugby

This site is devoted to the coaching of attacking rugby, and will bring you the latest thinking and research.  This site is ideal for coaches that want to try to do things better! Check out the Curious Coach Blog to see what is on my mind and give me a piece of yours!

Attack and Defensive Systems Workshop, November 8th from 4.30-9pm at Treasure Island.  Click here for info.

Much of the material on this site has come from the RFU technical journal, my work when I was with USA Rugby and various sites around the internet.  There is no reason why a coach should not be well informed!

A good starting point as a coach is to check out some coaching approach materials.  This is a great article about Wayne Smith's approach from Lynn Kidmann's book, Athlete-Centered Coaching.  It is a must read for any curious coaches.

Here are some articles that I put together looking at how to develop a culture in a team that promotes learning and performance.  I hit on this approach when I brought in a friend to do a strategic planning session with the Penn State Women in 2004.  It was very powerful (and you can look at doing one with your team if you check out the game development page) and the outcome was the concept of Intelligent Rugby, and creating Curious Rugby Players who wanted to learn and improve.  Intelligent Rugby 2
